Silk Road Music 絲綢之路音樂團
It is a Vancouver based ensemble that bridges classical Chinese music to the practices of the 21st century. Since 1991, it has performed hundreds of concerts in many parts of the World. From festivals, universities and with symphony orchestras. It’s artistic direction reflects the fundamental desire of each musician to strive for discovery. Won twice the West Coast Music Awards and received nominations for a JUNO with 4 CDs. Its educational book and cd “Village Tales” is a great source for learning Chinese Folk Songs in both English and Mandarin.

Introducing Chinese Music, the concert focuses on a variety of musical styles from classical to folk based pieces. It includes instrumental solos, ensemble pieces, a song with Tang poetry that spans a thousand years. The key focus is to showcase each artist and the lifelong devotion to the art form.
The concert features a group of well established Chinese Musicians living in Vancouver. All are currently performing and teaching. Some are also faculty of the VSO School of music.

Hi Friends: We just did our second collaboration with Uzume Taiko. It is a wonderful non profit organization who is trying very hard to keep music going for all of us! In this show, they will play a few pieces. We join the Taiko, and also do a 20mints set on guitar and pipa.

Both Andre and I have been practicing, and using this opportunity to build our techniques and recovery. Music is the true remedy for our body and spirit! Yes, believe or not, you will see a live performance with Taiko drumming, music of Mozart and a blues by Ron Hadley, and also watch Lorita Leung Dance Company. Join us!

Join Silk Road Music on a beautifully vivid journey through the many facets of traditional Chinese music and dance. Meet the ancient 5,000 year old instrument that’s considered to be the grandparent of the accordion and harmonica, dance along to a lively tune, and discover what a horse race and a conversation between birds can sound like when imaginatively translated into music.

This special digital presentation includes both a performance and accompanying workshop that introduces the instruments. All the Chinese players are the faculty of the VSO School of Music. Presented by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts as part of the Roots and Shoots Music Education Program, produced annually as a resource for Vancouver area schools.
